Bukele engaged in a scorched earth policy and it worked. While some innocent people were caught up in the mass arrests it ended the gangs that had been terrorising the country. One could liken this to waging war - where innocent civilians are killed in the process of achieving victory to protect the interests of the State and the people. It's ugly, but in desperate times desperate measures are often taken. The alternative is a continuing cycle of murder. For hardened gangs, group therapy is not going to work. The problem now is the loss of checks and balances for those in office, since they used sweeping powers to repair the country, plus general corruption by those running the institutions.

When things get really bad, with violent actors running the show, where corruption is rife, being soft and nice, and wanting to put people into some sort of voluntary rehabilitation program doesn't work. Psychological one-on-one strategies vs organised groups of people tends to fail. You can talk empathy and love all you want, but vs organised groups of men, a level of coercive force (a show of strength) is needed. You can add therapy in later. For people arguing the human rights aspect to this case, in defence of the perpetrators, you have to consider that the people being locked up are essentially terrorists who engage in murder to get their way. In that situation everyone that part of this group should be arrested. For good people to prevail against massive corruption an element of force is often needed. The same thing applies to corrupt Governments. The people in charge, who engage in illegal wars and murder, should also be arrested. It's the same principle.

A gay makeup artist was deported to El Salvador after U.S. immigrations officials claimed his "mom" and "dad" tattoos were "consistent" with gang activity, according to an unclassified document filed over the weekend.

Andry, whose full name has been withheld for his safety, sought asylum in the United States from Venezuela over persecution for being gay and for opposing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Attorneys claim he was wrongly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a port of entry in 2024, and the questionnaire filed during his arrest was revealed as part of the American Civil Liberties Union's (ACLU) court order to stop the Trump administration from deporting migrants under the Alien Enemies Act, per ABC News.

More than 200 Venezuelans alleged by the White House to be gang members have been deported from the US to a supermax prison in El Salvador, even as a US judge sought to block the removals.

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele wrote on social media that 238 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua had arrived in the Central American country, along with 23 members of the international MS-13 gang, on Sunday morning.

A federal judge attempted to prevent the Trump administration from invoking a centuries-old wartime law to justify some of the deportations, but the flights had already departed.

Alexander no longer thinks Trump is trolling when it comes to his recent wild claims about the Panama Canal, Canada and Greenland. However, his words may indeed be part of a bigger strategy and are obfuscating another objective. One has to remember that Trump needs to cast himself as somewhat friendly to the establishment in order to get as many of his appointments approved as possible. His comments about being tough on HAMAS, to get back the Gaza hostages, and his comments against Iran, are part of dealing with the Israeli lobby. He'll give the Israelis as much as possible in order to get other things done domestically. At the same time he'll likely not engage in starting any more wars and will pull out of Ukraine. His longer term strategy in the Middle East will also likely be one of deescalation. 

The main objectives for Trump will be to fix the US economy by reversing the outsourcing of industry, making the country energy self sufficient, closing the border and reversing mass migration, plus returning the rule of law throughout the country when it comes to street crime and election processes (stopping vote fraud). Furthermore, fixing the health of ordinary people, and banning the mRNA jabs, will be some other things that are on the top of his list.
