Are We Going To Be Like the Aliens? Probably. (Richard Dolan)

In this mind-bending clip, historian Richard Dolan discusses just how our current human civilization has developed serious anomalies that have put us on various exponential paths. Most likely, these cannot continue indefinitely. He has a brief discussion of our last 10,000 years of warm weather, which is a brief interglacial period as part of an extended Ice Age.

He then explores a radical question about extraterrestrial: we might be better served not by theorizing so much about them, as about the system they serve. That is, an advanced form of technocracy that most likely requires an entire set of behaviors that are required in order to accomodate it. Just like us. He suggests that we are currently developing a version of the system they themselves have, and are probably on our way to becoming like them.



There's a few other lines of evolution that Dolan does not consider here. He thinks about technocratic hive mind civilisations, but there could also be the rise of powerful long lived individuals, genetically modified, and AI robotic/drone entities. So you could have a variety of civilisations.
