Meeting in Alaska is a huge security risk for Putin. Ukrainian extremists want him dead. There's been multiple attempts to kill Putin via drone which makes this meeting a dangerous proposition. US neocons also (likely) want Putin killed. For security reasons they need to change the location at the last minute, and to a secure location outside of the USA.
