During a recent appearance with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, California Democrat Ro Khanna criticized Republicans for holding the debt limit hostage, insisting that Democrats would never do likewise and are too “responsible” to play hardball with Republicans over issues like Medicare for All or the Green New Deal. Although as Reid points out, that’s precisely the kind of tough negotiating many Democratic voters would like to see from their elected representatives.
Guest host Aaron Maté and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss Khanna’s acknowledgment in light of his recent vote to condemn socialism.
The major US political parties are all bought by special interests and corporations. The US could afford to have a workable healthcare system, like the rest of the developed world, if there was the political will. This does not mean the country is going to become some kind of communist society. It's a safety net for citizens that pay taxes (and to help the poor, who, when they get back on their feet, also pay taxes). It's also a humanitarian thing to do.
