In relation to the combat, the key thing to remember is the continuing Russian use of attrition warfare to destroy the Ukrainian Army. One can imagine that the Russian Army, in the rear, is preparing to employ more artillery and drones to the front line. If the Ukrainian Army does break down then larger Russian advances would occur, but it does not look like the Russian military is not trying to force their way through. Advancing on a broad front prevents/lessens the ability of the Ukrainians to attack advancing columns in ambush, or hit and run, operations. 

Biden's insults towards Putin are clownish, coming across as a propaganda gambit to vilify the Russians, rather than being of substance. Ukraine is not simply defending itself against an 'evil dictator'. They've been the aggressors since the 2014 coup. A Russian withdrawal will not lead to peace because the extremists in Washington and Kiev do not want peace.
