Significant decisions are simply put in the hands of politicians and technocrats who have acted as if they are sociopaths, or psychopaths, who have been captured by various (corporate) special interest groups. 

Oliver's solution to this mess is to abolish the party system. The best we can do in such a situation is to therefore vote for independent candidates or anti globalist minor parties that have not been captured by big moneyed interests.
