The ABC’s Hilarious Coping Mechanism for One Nation Winning (Daily Insight)

Despite endless media headlines branding One Nation voters as “racist” or “far-right”, regular Australians aren’t buying the spin. In WA, One Nation just smashed safe Labor seat Secret Harbour with 57% of preferences. Working-class voters are officially abandoning Labor.

You don’t have to look very far to find the mainstream media bashing Pauline Hanson, her One Nation party, and its supporters. In May, the Guardian declared: “‘Vein of racism’: race discrimination commissioner accuses One Nation and Coalition of scapegoating immigrants.” Earlier this month, the ABC headlined: “Students walk out of school around the country to protest One Nation.” Nine News went with: “‘She’s a pelican’: Paul Hogan slams Pauline Hanson monoculture comments.” And if you want a far-Left activist view, Green Left bellowed: “Reject One Nation’s call to return to White Australia Policy.”

Yes, according to the Left, voting for One Nation is equivalent to voting for Adolf Hitler.

Yet despite all this criticism, regular Australians are just not listening. For some reason, despite the Left’s cries, regular people keep voting for One Nation. Take, for instance, recent news coming out of Western Australia as reported by WAtoday: “One Nation claims victory in WA seat of Secret Harbour, but Labor not ready to concede.” The ABC was on the defensive, but still sounding kind of offensive with their headlines: “‘Orange tsunami’ in WA Labor heartland sends shock wave around country,” and “One Nation is coming for the establishment and no-one is safe.”

Yes, Australia is in mortal danger—according to our national broadcaster.

It’s interesting to see the spin the ABC put on this election. Prior to the vote, they noted: “Secret Harbour has always been a safe Labor seat, but outer-suburban seats like this, where housing and cost of living are front of mind, are considered the next frontier for One Nation.” And on the night of the election, they asked: “Can One Nation break into a Labor heartland?”

Yes, this seat in Perth’s south was a long-held Labor seat. The idea of conservatives taking it—let alone One Nation—was considered impossible.

The results are pretty clear: 57% of preferences flowed to One Nation compared to just 43% for Labor. Obviously, regular working-class Western Australians no longer feel the Labor Party represents them—or at least, not in the numbers Labor has grown accustomed to.

Looking at the figures from the WA Electoral Commission, the detail is telling. There was initial concern that splitting the conservative vote would allow Labor an easy win, but that certainly didn’t play out. While the Liberals secured 17.32% of the primary vote and Labor took 24.38%, One Nation stormed ahead with 39.07%. In the end, the split vote didn’t even matter. Labor simply couldn’t compete, proving that the working class has firmly turned against the so-called Labor Party.

But don’t worry, the ABC has figured out what’s actually going on here. They just couldn’t help but bring race into it. In their article titled “One Nation secures victory in Secret Harbour by-election,” they included a section called “Secret Harbour Fast Facts.” One bullet point read: “Secret Harbour is home to many young, working families and ranks fourth out of WA’s 59 electorates for residents who nominate British or Australian as their ancestry.”

Basically, that’s the ABC’s subtle way of telling its audience that Secret Harbour is full of white people—and therefore, probably racist white people—and that’s the main reason One Nation won.

Although, to by that logic, you’d have to completely ignore what they noted just above: that it was previously “very safe Labor territory.” Does that mean these voters were racist when they were voting for Labor, too? Or did an entire electorate just magically become racist overnight?

Anyway, the message from the working class in Secret Harbour is clear: Labor doesn’t represent them anymore—One Nation does.

It's not racist to vote for Nationalist parties that want closed borders. The migrants that I talk to that support closed borders understand the importance of protectionism - something many people on the left struggle to incorporate into their psyche. They see protectionism as tantamount to racism which is not true. They don't seem to grasp basic action-consequence thinking in the face of this kind of rhetoric. Thankfully many people can see what's going on around them, with a failing economy and sky high house prices and rents due to increased demand caused by open borders. They can also see the folly of NET ZERO policies that most people on the left simply accept because they've bought into the bankrupt idea of climate change (global warming), something most of the rest of the world has rejected.
