Russia Ukraine War Forcing Armies to Re-Invent the Tank /Lt Col Daniel Davis

Defensive warfare has come out on top again, such as we saw in World War 1. We are now at the stage where drones and ballistic missiles dominate, where the only safe place is far from the front, or in underground bunkers, and to advance requires overwhelming firepower when it comes to these assets. We are back at industrial warfare where attrition is a huge factor. Things are heading towards a sci fi future of war being waged from underground bunkers using missiles and autonomous vehicles, with humans coming in afterwards. One key issue with the drones, and also the missiles, is to have anti drone drones providing air cover. Anti missile defences, missiles, are also needed. 

The only way that armoured vehicles would become dominant again is if they had high powered laser defences that could defeat all incoming ordinance, that includes drones and anti tank missiles.
