Trump is claiming that the US controls the Strait of Hormuz, in rejecting a peace deal, but it is Iran that controls the Strait.
US military forces in the region have had to withdraw to Jordan and Israel and their aircraft carriers have pulled back after being threatened with ballistic missile attack.
These quips are just more grandstanding from Trump, although he's implied he will use nuclear weapons on Iran after the Mid Term elections - a very serious threat.
The bottom line is that the US has already lost the war militarily. They are trying to cripple Iran economically, like they did with Syria, and are trying to threaten them into submission. However, Iran is a lot stronger than Syria and has support from both Russia and China.
Any continuation of the blockade is more likely to hurt the US and the rest of the world before it critically impacts Iran.
