12 Harsh Memories from New York’s Darkest Years (1975–1981) - NYC Nostalgia


Between nineteen seventy-five and nineteen eighty-one, New York City nearly collapsed. The Bronx burned, crime ruled the subways, garbage piled in the streets, and fear gripped every neighborhood. Yet, from the ashes of bankruptcy, violence, and chaos, the city refused to die.



A good economic lesson, about rising debt, and bankruptcy, in addition to the societal happenings during this chaotic time. Things can go this way for any city or state that bankrupts itself or heads in that direction.
