Barry Strauss is a historian and author known for his expertise in ancient military history, especially the Roman Empire. He is a professor at Cornell University and has written several books on classical civilizations, leadership, and warfare.



According to this clip the fall was due to general (elitist) corruption brought about by Roman successes, the outsourcing of their military, plus the disengagement of the public from political affairs, and the  inclusion of everyone from the Empire into Roman society. To prevent the same thing from happening today these things must be addressed.
