The bottom line is that the Russians hold all the cards and have international support for the continuation of the conflict. Ukraine has painted itself into a corner where only a complete surrender will likely end the war. The Russians will not settle for the continuation of the present regime and the maintenance of their armed forces that will result in further fighting in the near future.
