In the clip Van Sciver talks a lot about the nature of what they are doing, which is producing limited run boutique comics via crowd funding. They are not aiming to churn out monthly editions. The crowd funding is about investing in something that you expect to get at a (much) later date. The problem is that this is not a guaranteed thing. It's like investing in penny stocks. Sometimes the thing you invest in goes under. It's the nature of the game. So don't invest money that you are not prepared to lose.
