Rather than Trump playing 3D chess it looks like Putin has opportunistically jumped onto a way to isolate Ukraine. Zelensky has essentially self sabotated Ukraine's chances of continuing US support, with his mad behaviour, while the war itself was only ever a neocon project designed to weaken Russia (that failed).
