How Rwanda Secretly Invaded the DR Congo (History Legends)

πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΌπŸ‡¨πŸ‡© Since 2022, the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels have renewed their offensive in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In January 2025, the M23 rebels were reinforced by numerous Rwandan Army detachments. Together, they launched a new campaign which overwhelmed the FARDC, also known as the Congolese Army. That's how Goma, the capital of North Kivu, fell into enemy hands. A peaceful resolution to the conflict is hard to imagine due to all the lucrative mining sites in the region.

The good thing about these History Legends clips is that he treats the male belligerents (the fighters) in the wars he covers as knowing participants in what they are doing, and does not try to mollycoddle them in anyway, with poor 'this', or poor 'that'. In the West there generally seems to be a lack of respect for the agency people have when it comes to what they are doing. Yes, they are in a bad personal position, and there is often outside Western meddling in many situations, but to deny people their own agency, to not recognise other people are potential rivals and threats, is to baby them. It's highly DISRESPECTFUL. It also opens up those doing the babying to being run over by tough-minded outsiders who only really respect power themselves.

The lesson for history is that different groups of people will look after their own in-group, and take what they can from others when the opportunity arises, especially if some of their in-group is in a minority position in another country. At the first sign of gaining an upper hand over other people, this tends to happen, especially in areas where things are falling apart economically. Strong men step in to take over (and kill/dominate others). Think about balkanisation.
