Two big lessons from what happened are that an economically weak and impovrished State ends up having a weak military where many of the Syrian Government commanders accepted huge bribes rather than fight. And that making deals with any of the US backed regime change forces only delays renewed efforts by them to continue their agenda. Any deals will always be Machiavellian in nature and will not done out of good faith. The only way to win is through military and economic might (along with making the right political moves).
