Mark Sleboda explains how the Russia-Ukraine war will end and and the chances of a NATO-Russia war (India's Global Impulse)
In the latest episode of India's Global Impulse, I spoke to Mark Sleboda, a US Navy veteran and an International Relations and Security Analyst based in Moscow.
We discussed the possibilities of how the Russia-Ukraine war would end, the chances of a direct war between NATO and Russia and the possibilities of the Russian army taking the strategic city of Odessa. The Russian army is closing in on the important city of Pokrovsk, the city which serves as an important logistics hub for Ukraine. Will the conquering of Donbass compel Russia and Ukraine to make peace? Are there chances of a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO? Will Russia try to conquer the city of Odessa since it serves as a direct gateway to the Black Sea? Watch the episode for comprehensive analysis on issues you do not hear in the Western media by Mark Sleboda.
Sleboda thinks that the Russians won't have a complete victory with the outcome being something like what's happened in Syria. The question is whether Russia would stand for such an outcome with continued war in the future? They need the Ukrainians to surrender and a change in their Government, and perhaps the installation of a Russian puppet, like what operates in Chechnya. The big outside danger remains full scale NATO intervention.
Presently the front lines in the Donbass (East) are nearing the point where they'll soon be no more fortified urban positions and just open country, allowing a faster Russian advance (where they'll be no place to hide or bunker down) up until the Dnieper River.
Russia also likely wants to take Odessa in the south to stop the West using the coastal region to influence actions in the Black Sea. Many ordinary people in Russia want this outcome since it's heavily populated by Russians (70%). Mark points out that what happens with Odessa will depend on what sort of end game plays out. If there's a complete surrender then the Russians should take control of the city and region.
