STUCK IN COMICS- Why Do Diversity Hires All Act Like They Were DRAFTED Into The Comic Book Industry? (YaBoiZack)

Zack makes a great point about these diversity hires, that is they never post anything about reading comics FOR FUN. To them this is just a writing job, which is sad because there are a LOT of other talented writers out there who are actually interested in the subject matter. Their lack of interest, and political bent, shows through with the poor state of comics today. One should be hiring people based on merit rather than to fill some diversity quota. In the past, the women that worked in comics produced great comics because they understood what the game was, showed an interest, and did not have a misguided agenda to overturn the apple cart.

Many of us old-schoolers who do/did comics professionally, chose to be in the profession because we totally geek out over the idea of making comics. Many real comic pros can easily sit around a cafe table and reminisce/share memories of when they were a kid drawing home-made comics, or writing comic stories and concepts, on the living room table, the kitchen table, during math class, at the cafeteria tables of elementary & high school, or even in bathrooms.

My parents didn't like me drawing comics -- they wanted me to grow up to be a lawyer or doctor. So I hid in the bathroom to draw when the parents were asleep or watching nightly television programming on the sofa.

The only reason why many of us stopped making comics is because adulthood financial responsibilities happened. If comics paid better and offered benefits like health insurance that can cover our family, we'd never leave the industry. But as many of us pros grow older, we need jobs that offer better jobs conducive to raising a family and creating a nest egg for retirement.

However, these Fake Geek Creators in comics do not have that memorable lineage dating back to the beautiful and exhilarating times of drawing homemade comic strips or writing comic story ideas on the living room table. Or being like the kids in Stanger Things who nerd out together in some backyard or makeshift clubhouse tent talking about being comic pros someday. Many Fake Geek Creators see the Comic Industry as a perishable hobby that can be replaced with whatever is the new trend in the world. Gender-swap everyone of the X-Men. Soy freak the G.I.Joes. Weaponize the entire DC universe as a political statement and ideology. Coz that's what is cool and trendy today.

Someone once asked me, "If you won the Power Ball today, what you do tomorrow?" I replied, "If I didn't have to worry about finances to live and pay any health issues, I'd spend the rest of my life making comics... and I would open an incubation company that counsels and financially assists aspiring Comic Creators launch the comic book they dream of making. Because at the heart of every creative person who geek out over comics, is an idea to make that one dream comic issue or series."

And that is where you separate the real geeks from the fake geeks in the comic creative sphere.
