The intensity of the fighting will eliminate a lot of Ukrainian defenders. However, Russian advances with armour are running into the same problem as Ukrainian advances, where armoured vehicles get taken out by missiles and drones. Casualties on all sides are going up. The overarching issue of attrition will favour the Russians. And then there is a question of Ukrainian troops surrendering under pressure.

The broad attack by the Russians here is likely intended to exploit any weaker points and make inroads in order to create a wider encirclement of Ukrianian forces. The fact that the Ukrainian Army is holding out for so long is remarkable.
