For someone who made his name on The Daily Show as an insightful and hilarious critic of American politics, Jon Stewart has become remarkably stilted in his political analysis, adopting decidedly mainstream positions on the critical issues of the day, whether COVID policy, the war in Ukraine or the January 6th riots. He even recently told quintessential insider journalist Anne Applebaum that January 6 threatened to bring down our “healthy democracy” (his words) and were likely a precursor to a planned military coup.
