The problem for those wanting to control everyone, if they push things too far they'll cause a mass rebellion. They'll end up sinking their own ship. These actions can backfire. Imagine if the entire NBA goes on strike in support. In the age of the Internet the information will be out there exposing what is going on. I think the cat is already out of the bag.
The reason things have remained hidden is there are overlapping interests protecting the corruption, that ties into intelligence agencies, organised crime, and big individual power players.
