The point is everything cannot be equal. The genders tend to be better at different things. Certain physical tests make female participation, as soldiers, extremely difficult, like picking up a male casualty and carrying them to safety, or even dragging the casualty across open ground. This doesn't mean that women cannot contribute to military campaigns it just means their roles will be different. In a country's fight to the death everyone will be conscripted, but when it comes to picking the most effective fighters this tends to exclude women (where there is a selection criteria).
