The academic started his climate analysis from the 1970s which was when the Earth was in a cooler period. This is a typical tactic to trick the public into thinking things are getting progressively hotter. The big issue is this academic knows about the true nature of the climate having written about it previously. 

In the next video dealing with this academic Tony reports that he's tried to contact the author to get to the bottom of his paper.
