How The Left Lost Its Mind Over COVID & Became Authoritarians (Jimmy Dore)

For centuries the left in the United States has stood against authoritarianism and government repression, and for civil liberties and the cause of the working class. Yet with the advent of COVID and the resulting pandemic, many on the left have abandoned all of those values, acquiescing to the demands of the pharmaceutical industry and co-opted government agencies to support lockdowns, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports.

Jimmy and John Jay College economics professor Christian Parenti discuss the various ways the coronavirus pandemic and the Trump presidency worked to upend the American left.



The left has generally sided with the one percent, technocrats, and big corporations. Debate is censored, and no cost-benefit analysis is allowed, that normally happens with other drugs. Everyone is in lock step with whatever the big pharma connected authorities say. 

The professor here points to psychological aspects of the leftists with them being stuck in a world of virtue signalling, shaming, sado masochistic thrills, policing others, and submission.  It's as if they are wracked by guilt, self loathing and want to drag everyone down to the same consensus position, like crabs dragging down other crabs that are trying to climb out of the bucket. Speaking out, no matter if it is based in fact, is not allowed. It is mass formation psychosis.
