Although the term 'shithole' is mean, it does reflect reality. This label can be applied to regions of Western cities, including going back in time, where we find ghettos and areas of poverty and violence.
What we must remember is that people coming out of these areas should not be treated with kid gloves since a lot of them will be mentally damaged thanks to this environment. One should be wise to the danger from other people who are not part of one's own neighbourhood.
Presently there are calls to ship in people from Haiti as refugees. Assuming they are excluding gang members, this should be considered a noble act, but any refugees should only be temporary until law and order is reestablished in Haiti. The US cannot simply take in everyone from around the world.
Note: If you are living in a shithole country you must support dramatic measures to fix the problem. You cannot use kid gloves to take on warlords. The El Salvador solution, of locking up tens of thousands of gang members, fixed the mess.
