War propaganda history/lesson going back to 2003. It helps to remember that lies and distortions are always in play when there's a war. This is about military and media propaganda. To the credit of the BBC at the time, they did a story dismantling what actually happened, and Lynch herself, in interviews, never went along with how things were portrayed. Today the mainstream media in the West seems entirely compromised. The truth of Lynch's situation only came out after her rescue, after the propaganda had already been aired in the months leading up to her extraction.
Although her convoy had been in an ambush, rather than fighting to the bitter end, being shot up, and poorly treated, she had not fired her rifle and suffer a broken leg when her vehicle crashed during the incident. She was placed in hospital and was being relatively well treated. The propaganda did its job to vilify the Iraqis and encourage people to support the invasion.
