U.S. Allies Denying Earthquake Aid To Syrian People (Jimmy Dore)
That the United States was supporting the “moderate rebels” in Syria was repeated so often it became a punchline, especially once it became evident that the U.S.’s allies in Syria included elements of ISIS and Al Qaeda – hardly “moderates.” But now those groups control the Syrian city of Idlib and, despite the devastation wrought on the region by recent earthquakes, the authorities in Idlib are refusing to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
Guest host Aaron Maté and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the United States’ ugly history in Syria and the terrorist groups that we’ve chosen to partner with.
They are also allied to Turkey. Will Turkey actually withdraw from these areas as promised?
The video shows documents from early 2012 showing US support for the extremists. The US DIA's own documents from August 2012 highlighted that the leading fighting groups were all extremists. However, the media and US politicians at the time kept pushing the false idea that they were supporting pro-Democracy Rebels, which was an obvious lie. Online media were onto this at that stage. What was happening is that the secular Government in Syria was fighting a proxy war fueled by outside money and extremist fighters that wanted to establish a sectarian caliphate.
