Russia Prepares Winter Offensive, West Runs out of Ammunition & Weapons, Ukraine out of Power & Time (Alexander Mercouris)

Russia is actually improving, thanks to the war, and becoming more self sufficient. Meanwhile deficiencies in Western equipment and support are being exposed. The main thing is the people of Russia understand what is going on and are supporting the war effort.

When I talk to my wife in Moscow ( she was visiting her parents when this began and is now afraid to leave them on their own), I get the sense that Russian people are following this war very closely, although, as Alex has said, they are not out on the streets waving flags. They understand it is a proxy war, but there is no joy in being at war with fellow Slavs just because the West wants to dominate Russia. There are millions of Ukrainian people in Russia. They are not being persecuted. It is the ethnic Russians in Ukraine that are persecuted. My wife, who takes very little interest in politics, is now glued nightly to "her program", watching daily updates on Russian TV. It is not as censored as the West portrays and sometimes I have to placate her fears, explaining what some of the reports really mean and that the situation is not as bad as she thinks. Russians are determined to win this war against the West and they will. The frustration amongst Russians is that they feel they should have gone in stronger and not negotiated as they did, losing their initial advantage because the Russian government was trying not to cause hardship on their cousins. They have plenty of volunteers who will gladly enlist if needed.

Here we go again. what do American m777 howitzers and German panzer self propelled howitzers have in common? Poor durability caused by bad understanding of metallurgy - which leads to poor combination of chamber pressures and material stress handling. Which results in Russians firing 20k rounds a day and western weapon systems falling apart.... This is a fundamental point I have been making all this time and will continue making. The Russians have been very good at designing robust metal structures that seem to handle repeated stress for extended periods of time, this starts at assault rifles, and ends with howitzers, rockets, airframes, etc. There is a repeating pattern of western under estimation of material fatigue.
