During one of his recent lucrative paid speeches to an industry group, former President Barack Obama lamented that the United States persists in its for-profit, employer-based healthcare system which stifles innovation in the genomic space. Unmentioned by Obama was the eight years he spent as President actively working to undermine single payer healthcare, to the extent that he even abandoned his campaign pledge to support a public option that would even compete with private health insurers.
