Mobs of Muslim and Hindu men fought violent running street battles in Leicester, with one former Labour MP reacting by celebrating the city’s “diversity” and its “vibrant exchange of cultures.”
This PJW clip raises the question of having multicultural societies.
People need to belong to one culture or society, within a country, and have a much weaker allegiance, if they are immigrants, to their previous land. The more divided and tribal the society is the more likely there will be fighting and the balkanisation of a country. Look at the UK in the past to present, with the Scottish, Welsh, Irish and English, and the fact they can barely keep things together. Imagine a future instance, coming from a large minority group, calling for a Muslim only province. Imagine a Hindu only UK province, or one that only allows people of certain skin tones.
The key thing for anyone joining any culture or country is to TAKE UP THE CUSTOMS AND TO RESPECT the group you have chosen to join. In the West this largely means taking up Enlightenment values of individualism. Also, imagine moving to a place like Japan and wanting them to conform to the language and culture of your country of origin. If it is not okay for this to happen with visitors to Japan then it is not okay in any other country.
People who are unhappy where they are because they feel that they don't fit into the dominant culture should think about moving to a country where they do fit into a particular society. They should do that OR ... take up the values of individualism, and the culture they are in, and find happiness being part of the society in which they find themselves.
