Modern Writers Can't Write Women (Critical Drinker)
Movies today increasingly struggle to write complex, human, relatable female characters. But why? In this clip from Happy Hour #46, Baggage Claim and I discuss the problem with writing women today.
The woman's character is like a Mary Sue, and cannot be challenged while the men in the strong women movies are made to be fools. The clip covers all the bases here, bringing up interesting points. The baggage Claim person brings up two of my favour recent films, A Quiet Place and Edge of Tomorrow, to show how male and female character can compliment each other.
I would also remind people of the heroines in horror films, and how they survive through their own wits and internal strength when everyone else does not.
