British Navy Doom Loop - Can Terminal Decline Be Halted? (Mark Felton)

The once great Royal Navy is now a mere shadow of its former self, hollowed out by 30 years of government cuts. Many experts now say that poor recruiting figures means it is decommissioning warships unnecessarily, shrinking the fleet and overworking remaining sailors, which does not encourage people to join the navy - in effect, creating a 'doom loop' or 'death spiral' from it appears it is unable to recover from. Are we looking at the end of the Royal Navy as an effective fighting force - how much longer can the cuts and decommissioning of warships continue before the service fades into complete irrelevance, becoming a tiny inshore patrol service? These are important and disturbing questions.
